How to Survive Puppy Teething

Is your puppy chewing on everything? Are they ripping apart those new shoes and chewing anything they come into contact with?

Your puppy could be teething. As the baby teeth fall out, adult teeth begin to appear through the gums. From 4 to 6 months of age, puppies will go through an intense time of teething.

It’s as painful for puppies as it is for humans who are teething. Puppies chew on just about everything to massage their gums and ease the pain. Other symptoms include bleeding of the gums. You may even notice your puppy's gums bleeding and blood on their toys.

So what can you do to ease the pain? Place a chew-proof toy in the freezer. Once it's frozen, take it out, thaw for an hour, and then give to the puppy to chew. The cool toy will feel good on your dog's gums and keep him occupied for a long time!

You can also Soften your puppy's dry dog food with water or chicken broth. This will make it easier to chew and make for a happy puppy!

The teething process should be completed once the puppy is 8 months old. Your puppy will have 42 teeth, 21 on its upper jaw and 21 on its lower jaw. Make sure to take good care of your dogs teeth!
